Marga & Eddy
Our names are Marga Schoonderwoert and Eddy Bollen.
We lived in Lanaken, Belgium, where we ran a very busy stone-masonry business until 2008.
We then decided to move to France to the tranquillity and beauty of the countryside in the département of the Lot et Garonne and in particular to the pretty village of Castelmoron sur Lot.
'Pourret' and the Region
It is close to Castelmoron that we found our new home, a set of former farm buildings, part of which has been tastefully restored to provide 4 magnificent guest Suites all with en suite bathroom facilities, perfect for a relaxing holiday. Outside there are shady areas in which to sit and read or to lounge by the pool and sun bathe.
The property is in the heart of the Lot et Garonne, renowned for it's wonderful local produce such as foie gras, wines, plums, honey, fruit and vegetables. There are markets every day of the week held in the surrounding towns and villages where all these lovely foods are displayed to tempt your taste buds.
In July and August, there are evening 'farmer's markets' held in several surrounding villages, where local food and wine can be eaten, at tables provided, to musical accompaniment. These events are well worth a visit and always appreciated by our guests.
On the third weekend of July each year, a Folkloriades festival is held in Castelmoron, presenting traditional folk dancing and music from various countries. In August there are medieval costume events with games for adults and children.
The rolling landscape with fortified hill top villages (bastides) is said to be similar to that of Tuscany.
Tourism, although developed, is fairly low-key and the area is not highly populated.
These are ideal conditions for a holiday free of the daily stress of crowds and heavy traffic.
This area, where the River Lot has its confluence with the River Garonne, has a pleasant and sunny climate.
Temperatures are in the range 28°C to 32°C in July and August and in spring and autumn, between 20°C and 25°C
